In the second leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 against Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid star Antonio Rudiger caused a stir by making a 'cut-throat' gesture. On June 11 local time, Rudiger addressed the incident for the first time in an interview with Amazon Prime Video.
After the match, Rudiger first celebrated wildly with his teammates but then appeared to lose control. During the game, he was abused and subjected to severe racial discrimination by Atletico fans, prompting him to respond with the cut-throat gesture toward the home supporters.
Speaking about the incident, Rudiger said: "When we played Atletico Madrid, we were surrounded by boos and insults. We only went over there because our fans were in the upper stands. So it was just a little joke, and the gesture was part of that."
Regarding the upcoming new season, Rudiger stated: "I'm very open-minded about what will happen next season. But I think it's good because we have a lot of young players. Not all our legends are there anymore. I'm really looking forward to it."
