Borussia Dortmund barely kept prolific striker Erling Haaland during this transfer window, but will most surely have to let him go next summer.
In a recent interview with the Spanish news outlet AS, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge talked about Bayern Munich’s rival and their star. Rummenigge said: “It will be very difficult to retain him in the Bundesliga beyond 2022, at which point I understand that a termination clause enters into force. He does not stop scoring and clubs are already lining up to convince him and his agent.”
According to multiple reports, Haaland has a release clause of that could range between €75 million and €90 million, depending on performance-based escalators. Rummenigge speculates that we will witness an auction for the Norwegian striker, as the release clause is already set, clubs will try to lure him with high salaries. “He will be taken by the club that offers the highest salary. I don’t think it’s possible for any Bundesliga club, not even Bayern [to bring him].”
One problem for Bayern is that Erling Haaland is represented by Mino Raiola and that could be a big no-no for Bayern’s front office. They already had bad encounters with those types of player agents, such as Pini Zahavi.
In the end, Leroy Sane’s transfer to Bayern broke the salary structure, and we still have to wait and see if it was worth it. While Haaland’s transfer would definitely be worth it, the transfer itself could cause major financial problems for the Bavarian club.
