Mohamed Salah has condemned the mosque attacks in New Zealand that have claimed the lives of 49 people and left 48 injured.

Two mosques in Christchurch were targeted during Friday prayers, with 28-year-old Brenton Tarrant killing 41 at the Al Noor Mosque.

A further seven were killed at a mosque in nearby Linwood, while one more person died in hospital.

Responding to the attacks, Salah said: 'Dreadful news coming out of New Zealand this morning.

'My condolences go out to the families of those innocent victims who lost their lives in this act of pure evil.'

Tarrant has been arrested and will appear in court charged with murder after livestreaming the massacre.

Four more people have been apprehended by police for questioning over the appalling attacks.

Police did not identify those taken into custody and gave no details except to say that none of them had been on any watch list.
