A World Cup winner has claimed that it is Jadon Sancho's 'destiny' to return to Manchester United.

Sancho rejoined Borussia Dortmund on loan in January after enduring much frustration at Manchester United having fallen out of favour with manager Erik ten Hag.

However, Sancho has shown some encouraging signs for Dortmund of late and scored in the defeat to RB Leipzig before being producing an impressive display in the 1-0 win against PSG in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals.

There remains uncertainty over where Sancho will be playing next season, especially with Dortmund interested in signing him permanently.

However, if ten Hag's time at United was to come to an end in the near future then it could pave the way for Sancho to return to Old Trafford.

Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero, who won the World Cup with Italy in 2006, believes that Sancho should go back to United.

Speaking on CBS Sports, Del Piero said: ‘When a player like him can play these kind of games, with this kind of quality, you need to go to Man United.

‘Next year maybe, one more year, lets see how he feels, which coach, ok, everything, this kind of player needs to play every year at the top.

‘And Dortmund don’t get me wrong, they deserve to be there, they may go to the final and win the Champions League, but [it would be] something extraordinary for that.'

Del Piero was full of praise for Sancho's performance against PSG, saying that he was 'unbelievable'.

According to Del Piero, Sancho should return to United and perform with the same 'personality' that he has shown at Dortmund.

‘With Man United they are supposed to go every year. I know they are struggling, but you have to, you want to achieve with the big clubs and this is the destiny of Man United and the destiny of him at some point.

‘I hope for him that he can go there and perform in that way, with that personality, I really hope so.

‘Tonight he was unbelievable, he was dribbling everybody.'

There are set to be significant changes at United this summer, with the club open to offers for all but three of their squad.

Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund are the only three players that will definitely not be sold.

Sancho signed for United from Dortmund in 2021 for a fee of £73million.

The winger has made 82 appearances for United and has scored 12 goals, while he has provided six assists.

Sancho refused to apologise to ten Hag after accusing the United boss of making him a 'scapegoat' for the club's disappointing results.

Speaking in January, ten Hag stated that United had issues 'all the way through' with Sancho.

Ten Hag told Sky Sports: 'He's now at Dortmund. So after he was signed, one year before [I was here], and there were issues. We have had issues all the way through, and so you can make out his stay at Manchester United so far is not a success.

'So now he is going back to Borussia Dortmund, so I wish him the best of luck. I hope, we all hope he is doing well there, he will be successful. Again, we will see what is going to happen.

'[Would things be different if he had apologised?] 'We have said that before. And I don't want every time to return to the point. He knows what he should do and we have made that clear.'

Ten Hag stated that Sancho's absence from the matchday squad against Arsenal in September was due to his performances in training.

Sancho subsequently issued an angry response on social media, writing: ‘I have conducted myself in training very well this week’ and ‘I’ve been a scapegoat for a long time which isn’t fair!’
