Schlotterbeck outlines Bundesliga title aim amid reported Bayern interest

Nico Schlotterbeck's foremost aim is to win a Bundesliga title, as he weighs up whether to extend his contract with Borussia Dortmund amid rumoured transfer interest.

Schlotterbeck has emerged as a key part of Dortmund's defence since joining from Freiburg in 2022, making 142 appearances for the club in all competitions.

The Germany international has made 18 appearances so far this campaign, having missed Dortmund's first few games as he recovered from a meniscus tear suffered at the end of last season.

BVB have kept six clean sheets in those games, while Schlotterbeck ranks joint-third in their squad for interceptions (21) and fourth for clearances (63), while winning 29 of his 48 aerial duels.

Schlotterbeck has yet to win a major trophy with the club, however, losing the Champions League final to Real Madrid in 2024. He was previously a runner-up in the DFB-Pokal with Freiburg two years earlier.

Reports have suggested Bayern Munich harbour a long-term interest in Schlotterbeck, whose contract expires at the end of the 2026-27 season.

Dortmund will surely be keen to tie the centre-back to fresh terms, but they will have to satisfy his long-term aims of winning silverware.

"I have the goal of winning a championship in Germany," Schlotterbeck told Amazon Prime Video in Germany.

"We have been close. The Champions League is very difficult to win, and we were close there too. In the DFB-Pokal, I was close as well.

"As a professional footballer, I've only won the Under-21 European Championship. Now I want to actually hold something in my hands."

Dortmund are currently second in the Bundesliga table at the winter break, nine points adrift of Bayern.

They visit Eintracht Frankfurt in their first fixture of 2026, on January 9.
