Sean Dyche puts hat in the ring for Man Utd job and sends blunt Amorim warning

Manchester United have a decision to make over the future of Ruben Amorim but former Everton and Burnley boss Sean Dyche has suggested he could potentially be the answer

Sean Dyche claims he would win more games than Ruben Amorim after admitting his Manchester United dream. The Red Devils have endured a rotten season in 2024/25, with the Portuguese boss failing to arrest the slide.

They currently sit 16th in the table with just two games remaining and could even finish just one place above the relegation zone. Amorim has already claimed that his job should be under scrutiny should things not improve very quickly next season.

Former Everton and Burnley boss Dyche has recently admitted that United are one club he would love to manage before the end of his career, while suggesting that time is running out for Amorim to turn the tide.

Speaking to Stick to Football, brought to you by Sky Bet, he said: “It was always Manchester United because of the size of the club, not because it’s Man U – but due to the sheer grandeur, particularly back then. I know they are going through a tough run at the minute, but the whole worldwide feel of it. That’s a big superpowered club.”

Dyche added: “He [Ruben Amorim] better win some games – pretty quick. I reckon if I went there and played my way, we’d win more games. Just 4-4-2 – give them basic rules of principles. They have some good players. You don’t have to over teach everyone.

“I’d be interested more in the longer run, if he can stick to his principles and then next season, we’re all going, ‘Fair play’ – but, he’s been there a while now so you better start bringing some wins soon.

“I’d be surprised if Ruben Amorim is not under pressure [early next season]. Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt this season – he’s laying down his platform for success, the future, and educating, let’s say.

"Then you get your pre-season, because now you’ve got that window to actually work on it, day in, day out. Shift a few players out who maybe don’t buy in, shift the players in who do buy in. Then, if it’s not early next season, how long do you go?

“The perfect scenario is at least if you get a pre-season and juggle the transfers, then by Christmas, if you’re not having some form of success – most people go, ‘Things need to start working pretty quickly’. You probably get the next window, and then by January/February, they are going, ‘It’s not working’.”

Fortunately for Amorim, he has a way of rescuing United’s season and ensure Dyche stays away from Old Trafford. United take on Tottenham in the Europa League final later this month and will secure a spot in the Champions League should they secure victory.
