Second club convinced that Nico Williams will stay at Athletic Club this summer

The transfer saga of the summer so far involves Nico Williams. The 22-year-old, fresh off helping Spain win their fourth European Championship title, is expected to announce imminently where he will be playing his football during the 2024-25 campaign. Athletic Club have been pushing to retain his services, amid strong interest from Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Barcelona have practically given up hope of signing Williams, with their belief being that he will remain in Bilbao for at least another 12 months. The Catalans considered him to be their leading target for this summer’s transfer window, although they are now exploring other options.

Barcelona aren’t the only club that expect Williams to stay put. Sport have reported that PSG have been notified that the Spanish winger will not be heading to the French capital this summer – they were apparently notified of this a few days ago.

For now, Williams has yet to communicate his decision, although it does seem very likely that he will continue with Athletic Club for at least one more season. Barcelona are still waiting, but they have begun to prepare for a negative response.
