Sergio Ramos faced disciplinary action after publicly criticizing referees following his last match with Monterrey in Liga MX. The controversy began when two of his goals were disallowed in the game, sparking frustration from the veteran defender.
After the match against Santos Laguna, Ramos commented on a video showing the goals that were ruled out. One was flagged for offside and the other called back for a foul, according to referee Luis Enrique Santander.
Sergio Ramos’ social media post fuels controversy
Although Ramos’ frustration was clear on the pitch, it continued hours after the match when he took to Instagram to express his displeasure.
“The call they made was a disgrace. Meanwhile, they let all kinds of tackles go in the corners and call them normal plays… The foul they called today is a joke!! This only happens in this league!! Oh well, moving on. They took away two goals from us today,” Ramos wrote.
The post immediately sparked debate about whether he would face further sanctions. The Mexican Football Federation’s Disciplinary Commission did not mention the case in its latest report. According to El Norte, however, Ramos was fined a monetary penalty but will not miss any upcoming matches.
Rayados leader on and off the field
As Rayados’ captain, Ramos has quickly become a cornerstone of the team. Known not only for his defensive prowess, he has also made an impact in attack, including the two goals that were controversially disallowed in the recent game.
