Manchester United vs Liverpool

Manchester United will play host to Liverpool in a Premier League clash this weekend.

The Red Devils head into the tie in desperate need of a league win. Man United have failed to win any of their last three league games, and are already falling behind the title-chasing pack.

However, picking up a victory against Liverpool is easier said than done. United’s record against the top English sides is pretty poor under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and their record against Liverpool alone is even more of a concern.

The Red Devils did beat their arch rivals 3-2 in the FA Cup earlier this year. However, in the league, Man United have not picked up a win over Liverpool since all the way back in March of 2018.

Since then, the Manchester giants have drawn three and lost three against Liverpool in the Premier League, with their last outing having seen the former come away on the wrong side of a 4-2 scoreline.

Solskjaer provides Varane update

With such a tough test facing them this weekend, Manchester United’s fans were no doubt hoping that key centre-back, Raphael Varane, would be back fit for the tie after picking up an issue on international duty which has since seen him miss Man United’s last two ties.

However, ahead of the game on Sunday, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has offered an update on Varane, but it is unlikely to boost the mood of United fans.

Speaking about Varane, Solskjaer stated that the defender is working hard but refused to put a timeline on a return, leaving Man United fans with basically no idea if the former Real Madrid man can be back this weekend:

“He’s working hard. As I said, it’s hard to put a time limit on players that you don’t really know, but he’s been on the grass and who knows?”
