U.S. soccer has a big weekend coming up as the Leagues Cup final between Seattle Sounders and Inter Miami will take center stage. But in Los Angeles, MLS Matchday 31 has a big clash between two teams expected to challenge for a championship.

LAFC will host San Diego FC at home, a match that is considered one of the most exciting new rivalries in the league. San Diego are enjoying a stunning inaugural season and sit top of the Western Conference, while LAFC are preparing to see Heung-Min Son make his home debut for the team.

In his first three games with the team, all played on the road, Son has contribute one goal and two assists. As he adapts to his new surroundings, the South Korean star could be a major factor for LAFC in the postseason.

Ahead of this weekend’s game, Son gave an interview to ABC News, reflecting on his time in the Premier League and subsequent move to the United States.

“In England, soccer is the number one sport. It’s like it’s their culture. In the United States they play a lot of sports, American football, baseball. But I joined LAFC to make MLS bigger,” Son explained.

Regarding this weekend’s home debut, Son insisted that is relishing the challenge and will approach the match against San Diego FC with great enthusiasm.

Nerves are good things, they make you happy and feel better, they make you smile,” Son added.

In his first weeks as a LAFC player, Heung-Min Son has been a massive hit with fans of the Los Angeles team. In a city with a huge South Korean population, Son has a key ambassadorial role to play within the community. It’s a responsibility that he recognizes and he is ready to perform in his new home.

“I am very grateful that everyone is looking for my name or my shirt and obviously that implies another greater responsibility: seeking to give something back to the club and to the people who support me,” he explained.
