Southampton 1-0 Spurs: Mourinho's side see 2 games without a win, Kane limps off

  /  R47

A miserable festive period for Tottenham ended with a New Year's Day defeat at a Danny Ings-inspired Southampton in the Premier League.

Match Report

Danny Ings continued his hot streak with a brilliant individual winner as Southampton earned a 1-0 Premier League victory at home to a lacklustre Tottenham, who lost Harry Kane to injury.

Ings, behind only Jamie Vardy in the league's scoring charts, hit the only goal as Southampton moved up to 11th in the table by virtue of a third win in four games over the festive period.

Tottenham trailed at half-time for the fourth straight league game and could not find a fightback, with Jose Mourinho's men unable to capitalise on Chelsea's draw at Brighton and Hove Albion in the race for Champions League qualification.

Their New Year's Day misery was compounded by star striker Kane limping off having appeared to hurt his left hamstring in the process of scoring an equaliser that was ruled out for offside.

What a goal from Danny Ings! He is in the form of his life and it's a superb goal to take the lead at St Mary's.

73' OFFSIDE! Kane's goal disallowed and he is off injured

Kane puts the ball in the back of the net, after Eriksen whips a lovely ball over the top of the Saints defence from a free-kick and Kane slides the ball home from the edge of the six-yard box. However, the flag instantly goes up for offside and it's ruled out. In going for the ball, Kane appears to have pulled his hamstring and is having to go off.
