According to Sport, Barcelona has been closely monitoring Fàbregas's development as a coach. As a La Masia product who also enjoyed a successful playing career with the first team, the club views him as a candidate for the head coach position after Flick concludes his tenure.
The German coach has stated that Barcelona will be his last stop before retirement, after which he will return to his family. Although Flick has no immediate plans to leave, the board and sporting department are monitoring Fàbregas's work at Como in Italy.
With the Serie A team, he has already secured Champions League qualification. The team's playing style is based on possession and a La Masia-inspired passing and control approach.
In a recent interview with SPORT, Cristian Tello, who played alongside Fàbregas for three seasons at Barcelona, spoke about his former teammate: "Honestly, I never imagined he would reach this point. He was my teammate back then, and I never thought he'd get to where he is today. But several former teammates have told me he's doing very well."
When asked if Fàbregas could take over as Barcelona coach in the future, Tello said that he fits perfectly with the club's structure: "Yes, of course, I can see that. He has that feeling, that Barça DNA, and he knows very well what it means to play at the highest level. He was very intelligent on the field, so if he continues to apply what he did as a player, he will be an excellent coach."
Beyond Fàbregas, Barcelona is also monitoring other former players' development. Busquets is currently interning as a coach with Barça B alongside Belletti. The club also sees Busquets as a potential candidate who could assume responsibilities within the coaching structure in the future.
There is currently no timeline for a potential succession change, but the sporting department continues to monitor these coaches who are familiar with the club's workings, ready to fill the vacancy when Flick decides to step down.
