According to Sport, Samu Castillejo, at 31 years old, has no team to sign with and is awaiting new opportunities. Due to injuries and bad luck, his career has been shorter than expected.
Castillejo also posted photos on social media of himself training in the gym and staying in shape, stating that he is also doing field training. In the summer of 2022, he joined Valencia, and in the same year, Gattuso also took over at the Mestalla stadium.
Since that year, Castillejo's career has not progressed as expected. He made his debut as a teenager at Malaga, then joined Villarreal, gradually becoming an important player for the "Yellow Submarine." After three years at Villarreal, he got an opportunity at Milan; four years later, Valencia invited him back to regain his form and the confidence he had lost at San Siro.
However, his season at Valencia had few highlights, and he was not part of Baraja's plans, subsequently moving to Sassuolo. At Sassuolo, his performance was also unsatisfactory, and after the team's relegation, he left a rather poor impression. He had some appearances at the beginning of the season, but gradually lost his place in the middle and was affected by injuries in the final stages. In the winter of 2025, Castillejo went to Malaysia to join Johor, playing for the team.
But he didn't make his debut until August of the same year, a game which his team won 3-0, and he even wore the captain's armband. Two weeks later, he started and played his second consecutive game, but never did so again. In fact, after his first three or four appearances, he only played one more game in the subsequent 20 matches. Now 31, he is preparing for his next opportunity.
