Spurs 'to pick 5,000 season ticket holders for tour of new stadium'

Tottenham are reportedly set to run a ballot of their season ticket holders in order to give lucky fans a first look at their new stadium once it is completed.

The lottery will select 5,000 supporters, who will be given tours of the stadium in smaller groups on Sunday, December 16.

It comes as Tottenham edge closer to finally moving into their revamped White Hart Lane home, months after the stadium was supposed to have been completed.

The Sun report that the club are confident a safety audit will be cleared in the next two weeks, and officials have penciled in the meeting with Manchester United on January 13 for their first game at the ground.

That would be four months after their initially scheduled first home game - against Liverpool on September 15 - at the 62,062-seater arena.

Spurs have also applied to play 17 more matches at Wembley between January and May - seven at full 90,000 capacity - as a contingency measure in case there are further delays.

However these plans have been met with numerous objections by local residents, who have complained to Brent Council that any prolonged Spurs stay at Wmebley would be 'insidious' and 'not reasonable'.

There have also been signs of Spurs supporters growing weary of the Wembley experience this season, and an increasing number have started to vote with their feet.

Just over 55,000 were inside for a thrilling 3-1 win against Chelsea, which was  well down on more than 73,000 for the same fixture last season.

There were fewer than 57,000 for the visit of champions Manchester City this campaign compared to more than 80,000 when Pep Guardiola's team visited in April.
