Storm Eunice: Bournemouth vs Nottingham Forest in Championship called off

Friday night's Championship fixture between Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest has been called off after Storm Eunice battered England's south coast.

The crucial meeting of the second-placed Cherries and play-off chasing Forest was postponed just hours before the scheduled 7.45pm kick-off.

Forest were understood to be furious at the late decision having already made their journey down to Dorset on Thursday night.

They pressed for Bournemouth and the authorities to make a decision by Friday morning at the latest but the postponement was only confirmed in the afternoon.

The Daily Telegraph reported that Forest were willing to rearrange the fixture for Saturday morning but Bournemouth declined the offer.

The severe weather has caused widespread disruptions across Britain, prompting the Met Office to issue a red warning - its highest threat level - for several parts of the country.

Some major roads were closed, while railways services were suspended across Wales and forced to operate at a maximum speed of 50mph in other parts of the country.

The strong winds that have battered Britain since Thursday also caused major disruptions at airports across the country, with several flights either delayed or diverted altogether.

A host of Premier League clubs had their travel plans for this weekend's games derailed by Storm Eunice and were forced to make alternative arrangements.

Tottenham face having to take a coach up to Manchester for their game against City on Saturday, instead of flying up north as usual.

A bus from Tottenham to Manchester takes around five-and-a-half hours in comparison to a flight of just over an hour.

A spokesperson for the club told Sportsmail that a final decision on travel arrangements is yet to be made but the storm could force Antonio Conte to travel by coach rather than plane on Friday afternoon.

Burnley, who play away at Brighton on Saturday, face a similar conundrum, as their flight from Manchester to London was cancelled.

Meanwhile, the League Two clash between Exeter City and Barrow on Saturday has been postponed due to safety concerns.
