Bad news seems to come in waves. After Barcelona's defeat in the Spanish Supercopa, it now seems as if Luis Suarez is going to have to have an operation.

SPORT can reveal exclusively that the Uruguayan forward will be seen on Saturday by the doctor Roman Cugat due to an ongoing knee problem. Suarez has been in pain for several weeks and has not been able to play at 100 percent.

The prestigious doctor will take a look at his knee this weekend and everything indicates he will have to undergo surgery to get it fixed.

If that is the case, Barça will be without the striker for six weeks, during which he would miss upcoming matches against Granada, Valencia, Levante, Betis, Getafe and Eibar and he will aim to be back for UCL last 16 tie against Napoli.

Suarez would be happy to have the operation now if necessary in order to be fit for the decisive phase of the season when Barça hope to be competing for three trophies.

Sources at the club have confirmed the problem to Sport and, without going any further, revealed he had to have an injection to play against Atletico on Thursday.

It will be a significant loss because Suarez is in good form. He was named La Liga's Player of the Month in December.
