The chances of Nigeria luring Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham from England has been dealt a serious blow by coach of the national team of England Gareth Southgate, Owngoalnigeria.com reports.
One year ago, the Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) announced on it’s website that it has succeeded in convincing him to dump England for Nigeria but the forward responded by saying he is yet to commit his future to Nigeria and went ahead to play in two friendly games for England at senior level.
A drop to the English Championship meant he wasn’t called up for subsequent games but the youth international has stepped up this season after a poor start with four goals in the first four games of the season for Chelsea and drew the interest of Nigeria when he added the country’s flag to his account on Instagram.
He subsequently revealed he is still open to the chance to play for Nigeria in the future and when he snubbed by Southgate in his latest squad, Nigeria felt the disappointment could open the door for him to commit to Nigeria but that appears to have been doused by the coach.
Southgate confirmed that the 21 year old is very much in his plans and will no doubt play for the team in their subsequent games , “Tammy is one of a number of players who have either started the season well or we know well from our junior teams. This (England) squad can look different over the next months”, the coach explained .
