In a recent interview, Ajax coach Erik ten Hag talked about former Ajax player Frenkie de Jong's current position at Barcelona. He said that he did not understand why De Jong has to play go head to head with opposing defenders.
"We put him [De Jong] in the sixth position and he showed a two-man effect," he said. I once asked him, 'Can you play no. 10? How many goals can you score?' Actually, he's not a good goalscorer while he's better at assisting. The coach should put the player who is good at assisting in his right position.
Asked if he would have kept De Ligt and De Jong last year, he said: "It would have been better for Dutch football. It is normal for them to go through an adjustment period when they arrive at a new team. But I think sooner or later they will play well."
