The 5 players with most PL assists since Christian Eriksen’s debut

The Premier League has been home to some brilliant playmakers over the years – and Manchester United's Christian Eriksen is up there with the very best.

Eriksen spent six and a half years at Tottenham and later had a brief spell with Brentford before joining United on a free transfer ahead of 2022-23.

We've taken a look with the five players with the most Premier League assists since Eriksen made his debut in the competition in August 2013.

5. Raheem Sterling – 54

The 2013-14 season proved to be a big breakout year for Sterling, and he registered five Premier League assists as Liverpool narrowly missed out on the title.

Despite the fact that Luis Suarez was then replaced by Mario Balotelli, he still managed to provide seven assists in 2014-15 before completing a £49million move to Manchester City.

The England international got just two assists during a difficult debut season at City but developed into one of the best wingers in the world following Pep Guardiola's arrival.

His 40 assists over the last six seasons have helped Guardiola's side win four Premier League titles, and he'll now be hoping to replicate that form at Chelsea.

4. Mesut Ozil – 54

Ozil swapped Real Madrid for Arsenal in the summer of 2013 and arrived with some serious pedigree, having registered 47 assists in 103 La Liga appearances for Los Blancos.

The former Germany international set up an Olivier Giroud goal on his Premier League debut and famously got 19 assists in the 2015-16 season, falling just one short of Thierry Henry's record for a single campaign.

He got his 50th Premier League assist on his 141st Premier League appearance and only one player has hit the half-century quicker than Ozil.

But the midfielder struggled to replicate that form following Arsene Wenger's retirement in 2018 and registered just four Premer League assists under Unai Emery and Mikel Arteta before leaving for Fenerbahce in January 2021.

3. David Silva – 63

Having registered 30 assists in his first three seasons at Manchester City, Silva had established himself as Premier League's creator-in-chief before Eriksen's arrival.

The former Spain international maintained his high performance levels and displayed incredible consistency over the following seven years, providing 63 assists in 206 Premier League appearances under Manuel Pellegrini and Pep Guardiola.

Admittedly, Silva was team-mates with some incredible strikers during his time at City, but they all loved playing in front of him.

“For me, David is the best [player in City's history],” Alvaro Negredo said in 2019. “When you take one No.10 with this quality, this vision, for a striker it's easier. When David takes the ball, you always think: 'His pass will come, it will come to me'.

“Maybe the striker is more egotistical and it's always 'goal, goal, goal', but David is the player who opens the space when the opponent is closed, always the one with the better solution.”

2. Christian Eriksen – 66

While most of Tottenham's summer 2013 signings went horribly wrong, the deal to bring Eriksen from Ajax went very, very right.

The Denmark international later formed a brilliant partnership with Harry Kane and developed into one of the best playmakers in the world, helping turn Tottenham into Premier League title contenders.

Along with Manchester United legend David Beckham, he's the only other player to have provided 10 or more assists in four consecutive Premier League seasons.

The midfielder completed a permanent move to Inter Milan in January 2020 but returned to England two years later and registered four Premier League assists during his brief stint at Brentford.

He's since joined Manchester United on a free transfer and will be hoping that the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford can help him add to his assist tally.

1. Kevin De Bruyne – 86

There was only ever going to be one winner.

De Bruyne even gave everyone else a head start, registering just one Premier League assist for Chelsea in 2013-14 before spending the following season at Wolfsburg.

But he returned to England with Manchester City in the summer of 2015 and has since set the standard in terms of productivity.

During the 2019-20 season, the Belgium international became the fastest player to reach 50 Premier League assists, and he also equalled Thierry Henry's long-held record for the most assists in a single Premier League season.

De Bruyne is now eighth on the all-time Premier League assists chart and is showing no signs of slowing down.
