The Athletic: FIFA plans to invest over $6 billion in global football development from 2027 to 2030

According to The Athletic, FIFA plans to allocate more than $6 billion for global football development from 2027 to 2030. The proposal includes increasing the amount distributed to member associations over four years to $25 million, up from an initial plan of $10 million, and allocating $99 million to each of the six continental confederations. To raise these funds, FIFA, led by Gianni Infantino, will utilize over $3.5 billion in reserves, a large portion of which comes from record commercial revenue of the 2026 World Cup, projected to reach $15 billion.

This proposal emerges amid governance tensions within FIFA. The FIFA Forward Enterprise project, which sought to open 20% of its commercial and event operations to private investors with ties to Donald Trump, was recently abandoned. UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin and CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani had both called for Infantino's resignation while advocating for the redistribution of financial reserves to member associations. The plan will be submitted to the FIFA Council for deliberation on Thursday and may receive final approval at the Congress in March. Meanwhile, Infantino is seeking a third consecutive term beginning in 2027; if no opponent announces their candidacy by the November 18 deadline, he may run unopposed.
