FC Barcelona continues to maintain as Plan A for the start of their home journey in the league championship the option of playing at the Spotify Camp Nou.
The efforts of the Barça board are going in that direction and, as long as they do not see that it is impossible to get there because the progress of the works prevents it, already knowing the parameters required by the City Council in terms of safety, they will continue to maintain that position. However, it is obvious that you have to have a Plan B and even more so seeing what happened with the management of the option to play at the Barça stadium, the Joan Gamper Trophy. After even announcing with the collaboration of president Laporta that the summer tournament would be the match with which they would return to the Spotify Camp Nou, finally the lack of permits made the club have to back down and rectify their initial forecast, with the wear and tear on their image that this entailed. And if we are talking about a Plan B, as MD was able to learn from club sources, the option of the Estadi Johan Cruyff to make his debut in La Liga against Valencia on September 13 or 14 is completely ruled out. The reason is weighty: the Ciutat Esportiva stadium where Barça Atlètic and the women's team usually play does not have the minimum capacity required to host First Division matches, which is 8,000 seats.
Specifically, the Johan Cruyff has a capacity of 6,000 seats and is therefore classified as Category 3. And the only fields where First Division matches can be played are those of Category 1 and Category 2. In addition, the club has not considered at any time adding extra stands to the Johan Cruyff to increase its capacity.
Plan B for the Spotify Camp Nou is still the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium. As MD has already reported, on September 12 a concert by the American singer Post Malone is scheduled there, which could be an insurmountable obstacle for Barça to play their league match against Valencia there. However, the pace of ticket sales for this concert is not very high and it could be moved to another smaller stage and thus free up the Montjuïc stadium. FC Barcelona and BSM, the company that manages Barcelona's municipal facilities, are in permanent contact and the possibility of returning to Montjuïc has already been raised, although, for now, as an alternative to the Barça coliseum.
