The most prolific Argentinian striker in Europe isn't Lionel Messi

There are a number of high profile players who spring to mind when you hear 'Argentinian striker.'

Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Gonzalo Higuain, and Mauro Icardi are just a few of the modern examples, but none of them hold the title for the most prolific Argentinian striker in Europe so far this season.

Instead, that award goes to Nantes player Emiliano Sala, who has scored 10 goals this season, outscoring all of his fellow countrymen.

With 10 goals, he's a full three ahead of his closest Argentine rivals, Messi and Aguero, who both have seven goals. Icardi has six for Inter Milan, and Higuain has five for AC Milan.

The 28-year-old started his career at Bordeaux, and had reasonable success on loan to clubs Orleans, Niort, and Caen.

He moves to Nantes in 2015, and has since appeared in 112 games, scoring 40 goals so far. His tally of 10 goals to start the season is his most prolific period yet, and he scored a hat-trick in Nantes 4-0 win over Toulouse last month.

Despite outscoring some of the biggest names in football, Sala has still never been capped for his country. He'll be hoping he can prove himself and earn a spot in the squad.

Nantes are currently in 10th in Ligue 1, so Sala's goalscoring form hasn't quite been enough for them to rise the ranks.

He's only behind wonderkid Kylian Mbappe in the current scoring Ligue 1 ranks, who has 11 and recently rose to become the most valuable footballer in the world.
