Thomas Tuchel confirms he will NOT stay as Bayern manager, no change of mind

Tuchel:

The 50-year-old's announcement will inevitably fuel speculation about a potential move to Manchester United, with the future of head coach Erik ten Hag still unclear.

'This is my last press conference at [Bayern's training ground] Sabener Strasse,' he told reporters.

'There were talks, but we didn't reach an agreement, so the decision of February still stands.

'The feedback from recent weeks was the foundation for us having a discussion. But we couldn't reach an agreement. I won't name the reasons.

'I'm a bit sad because I don't like leaving teams and a staff. There are 60, 70 people here that you see everyday.

'Also the stewards in the underground car park and the guys in the kitchen. There's a bond that develops with time. You work closely together for hours every day. It's always difficult.'

Tuchel was due to leave Bayern this summer after his exit was announced in February, but after unsuccessful approaches for four different managers, the Bavarian giants had sat down to try and reconsider the decision. However Tuchel has told the press that they could not reach an agreement, and he will still be leaving the Allianz Arena.

The German tactician was linked to the Barcelona job in February, and has expressed a desire to coach in Spain. He is also an old target of President Joan Laporta, who appreciates his work. More recent reports say that Tuchel would prefer to return to the Premier League though, and Manchester United are yet to confirm anything regarding the future of Erik ten Hag. Reports in Catalonia have not mentioned him as one of the candidates to replace Xavi Hernandez.
