Paris Saint-Germain have touched down in Lisbon ahead of their Champions League quarter-final clash with Atalanta on Wednesday evening.

Manager Thomas Tuchel was seen making his way to the team's hotel on crutches while sporting an protective boot on his left leg.

The 46-year-old sprained his left ankle with a fracture of his fifth metatarsal during a session of sport on last Thursday, which saw him added to a list of PSG injuries ahead of their last-eight encounter in the Portuguese capital.

The German boss, along with his players, all wore facemasks as they settled into new surroundings a day before they take on Gian Piero Gasperini's side at  Estadio da Luz.

Midfielder Marco Verratti, Layvin Kurzawa and Thilo Kehrer all look set to miss the game while reports suggest that Kylian Mbappe could make a surprise return from his own ankle injury in time for Wednesday's showdown.

The 21-year-old forward has returned to light training in the days leading up to the European clash and was spotted taking shots on goal during Saturday's session in an encouraging sign for Tuchel and the club's supporters.

The Frenchman suffered an ankle injury during PSG's Coupe de France final victory over Saint Etienne on July 24 following a horror tackle by Loic Perin. He was initially ruled out for three weeks but is exceeding expectations in his recovery.

Mbappe has been named in Tuchel's 28-man travelling squad, even though the PSG boss says it is unlikely he will be fit enough to start in Lisbon.

'The deadline is short, super short,' Tuchel told reporters last week.

'We spoke with the doctor today and we decided to meet again on Saturday to see what phase he is in and if it is possible that he is on the bench against Atalanta. But I do not expect too much.'

On the contrary, Atalanta midfielder Remo Freuler remains sceptical that Mbappe will be left out of the team in such a significant match.

'I know Angel Di Maria is suspended but I will only believe in Mbappe and (Marco) Verratti's absence when I see the team on the pitch,' Freuler told Eco di Bergamo.

'It's a Champions League quarter-final, everyone wants to be there and they are doing everything possible to take part in it.'
