Tottenham announce emotional Harry Kane return date as Bayern friendly scheduled

Harry Kane is set for an emotional return to Tottenham this summer with Bayern Munich.  Spurs have announced that they will host the six-time European champions in the Visit Malta Cup on Saturday, August 10 ahead of the 2024/25 Premier League season. It will be the first time Kane has returned to his former club in a playing capacity since his blockbuster £82million transfer to Germany last August. Eric Dier will also get the chance to say his Tottenham goodbyes after meeting the required contractual obligations to turn his Bayern loan move into a permanent transfer earlier this month.  The match represents the 12th meeting between the sides but it's only the fourth occasion Spurs have staged Bayern on home soil. Tickets are priced at £30 for adults and £10 for juniors and will go on sale on April 2 for all Tottenham season ticket holders.

Kane was granted permission to return to Tottenham's training ground in Enfield back in October to reconnect with some of the staff ahead of England's Euro 2024 qualifier against Italy. The 30-year-old also met with some of the Spurs players that had stayed behind during the international break.

But August's friendly represents a totally different proposition as Kane, providing he is fit, will now be playing for the opposition in front of the supporters that used to worship him.

The England captain has needed no time at all to settle into his new surroundings in Germany having scored 37 goals in 35 appearances in all competitions. He has 31 in the Bundesliga alone which is the highest-scoring season from any debutant in German top-flight history.

Tottenham have first refusal on Kane if Bayern ever decide he is available for transfer in the future. It's not as simple as a straight buy-back clause, though Spurs can match any bids for their record goalscorer.

Speaking to The Times, former Spurs favourite Dier recently outlined his respect for Ange Postecoglou - even if it did not work out between the pair.

The versatile defender said: “I absolutely loved working with Postecoglou for six months. I learned so much. If I were to be a manager, of all the managers that I worked with, I feel that my style will probably be most similar to Postecoglou’s. It’s just that the feeling wasn’t mutual in terms of playing!”

Both Kane and Dier were part of Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham side that was hammered 7-2 by Bayern back in the 2019/20 Champions League group stages.  Dier has made 10 appearances so far in Germany as he looks to launch an unlikely late push for Gareth Southgate's England squad for the European Championships.
