Tottenham boss Antonio Conte delighted with Richarilson

Richarlison thought he had crowned his first Tottenham start with his first goal for his new club and could not contain his delight. Off came the shirt in celebration and out came referee Stuart Attwell's yellow card.

Unfortunately, for the Brazilian forward, the goal was ruled out. He was half-a-yard offside. The yellow card, however, will stand, his second in successive games after one against West Ham on Wednesday.

Typical of Richarlison, who missed the first game of season with a one-match ban imposed by the FA because he picked up and threw a smoke canister while playing for Everton at the end of last season.

At Nottingham Forest, last weekend, he was accused of disrespect because he juggled the ball to waste time, and was promptly cut down by a slide tackle by Brennan Johnson.

It has been an entertaining start to his Spurs career, even if the wait for a goal goes on. He also thumped a shot against a post, against Fulham, and his efforts were saluted by boss Antonio Conte.

'For me he played in an amazing way,' said Conte, who started with Richarlison ahead of Dejan Kulusevski. 'Richy played well, with personality, with quality, also found difficult passes between the lines.

'I am using him in three positions across the front line and he has worked to understand our idea of football quickly.

'With Richy in this way, I am more relaxed because when you play every three days sometimes you need to give a bit of rest. I decided to give a rest to Deki, who has been fantastic for us but we start the Champions League in three days.'
