Tottenham chief Daniel Levy 'holds talks over data-driven model' for transfers

Daniel Levy hopes to revolutionise Tottenham's approach to recruitment and has reportedly held talks with betting experts over developing a data-driven model.

The success of Premier League clubs such as Brentford and Brighton using such an approach appears to have prompted a change of heart from the Spurs chairman, who had previously been sceptical of such ideas.

The Daily Telegraph report Levy wishes to use data to more closely analyse over-performing players in smaller leagues around the world.

Levy has been the subject of supporter anger this season after Spurs slipped back from being on course for Champions League qualification to potentially missing out on Europe altogether. They lost 3-1 at home to Brentford on Saturday.

They sit eighth entering the final day of the season, a point behind Aston Villa, who occupy the Europa Conference League place.

The Telegraph say part of Levy's brief for the sporting director he wishes to recruit is to use data to make decisions on recruitment but also on which existing players to keep or sell.

The aim is to extract maximum value from the transfer market in order to keep up with the likes of Manchester City, Newcastle United, Manchester United, Chelsea and other wealthier clubs.

The identities of those who reportedly met Levy remain a closely guarded secret.

Spurs want to appoint a new sporting director ahead of the summer transfer window following the departure of Fabio Paratici after his worldwide football ban for alleged irregular financial practices when working for Juventus.

Mail Sport reported earlier this month that Roma chief Tiago Pinto and Markus Krosche of Eintracht Frankfurt were among the names under consideration.

Levy has already appointed Scott Munn as the club's new chief football officer.

Meanwhile, the search for a new manager continues with Spurs facing the prospect of paying Feyenoord more than £6million in compensation to hire Arne Slot.

Ryan Mason is the current interim boss after Antonio Conte was dismissed in March, with Slot, who has just won the Eredivisie title, the frontrunner at present.
