Tottenham confirm Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso will join up with the Argentina squad

Nuno Espirito Santo has confirmed Argentina duo Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso will report for international duty this week amid new quarantine exemptions to be enforced from this month.

The pair were reprimanded by the club for joining up with their national teams against the club’s instructions for the last set of international fixtures.

At the time, Spurs told players who had to enter a red-zone territory in order to play for their country that they could not report for international duty because it meant they had to quarantine for 10 days in a Government approved hotel upon their return.

But Whitehall have since given players an exemption to avoid the compulsory 10-day hotel self-isolation period provided they head straight into their bio-secure club bubble provided they are fully vaccinated.

It means players who have entered red-zone countries can train and play for the clubs after the current international fixtures, provided they have taken both Covid injections.

And the Spurs boss has confirmed that Romero and Lo Celso will report for Argentina duty and that they will be available to train upon their return, a clear indication the pair are fully vaccinated.

‘They will go and they will return and they will return on different situations,’ said Nuno.

‘They they will have to isolate, but we are fortunate enough to have the Lodge and work normally with the team.’

The Portuguese boss eased the pressure on his position with a 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Sunday.

And Nuno added: ‘Today was very important for us, all the boys, the fans and the way the team played, I think we should be proud.

‘After we scored the second, from that moment we continued to create chances and I honestly believe there were more goals there for us today, but the production and the way we produced, the way we created was much, much better.’

Villa boss Dean Smith, who also revealed goalkeeper Emi Martinez will join up with Argentina, purred about Heung-min Son’s performance after the loss, saying: ‘We started the second half really well and got our just rewards, and sometimes games change on players, they had outstanding player on the pitch in Son, who won them the game.

‘His biggest quality is getting behind the defence but he’s also got great feet. Sometimes you have to tip your hat. The only difference between the two teams today was Son.’
