Tottenham fans FUME as supporters who were at Newcastle thrashing see loyalty points removed

Tottenham have incurred the wrath of their supporters once more after fans who were reimbursed for attending Sunday's capitulation at Newcastle saw their loyalty points removed.

The travelling Spurs faithful watched their side collapse in staggering fashion at St James' Park, with Newcastle putting five goals past them inside the opening 25 minutes on Tyneside.

It was a disastrous showing for the north London club, who parted company with interim boss Cristian Stellini in the wake of the 6-1 thrashing - just one month after placing him in temporary charge following the sacking of Antonio Conte.

Though while Stellini was the one shown the door, Spurs players took responsibility for a performance the club described as 'wholly unacceptable', urging them to issue full refunds to the fans who made the trip up to St James' Park.

When Sky Sports cameras cut to the away end after Newcastle's fifth goal, a number of empty seats were spotted as visiting supporters headed for the exits.

A statement from Tottenham’s players read after the game: ‘As a squad, we understand your frustration, your anger. Sunday wasn’t good enough. We know words aren’t enough in situations like this but believe us, a defeat like this hurts.

'We appreciate your support, home and away, and with this in mind we would like to reimburse fans with the cost of their match tickets from St James’ Park.'

However, as Tottenham go ahead with reimbursing their away supporters, the fans in question were quick to notice that the two loyalty points they received for attending the match have been removed from their season-ticket balance.

Loyalty points is a system used by most clubs to ensure their most loyal fans receive priority on tickets, meaning those who made the sorry trip to Tyneside were furious to see their attendance was practically futile.

One wrote on Twitter: 'Just when you thought this club couldn’t sink any lower! A £30 refund for your 500 mile round trip, so we will take away your loyalty points. WAKE UP SPURS FANS. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. #LevyOut #ENICOut'.

Another posted a photo of Spurs notifying a fan of the loyalty-point deduction and put: 'My word @SpursOfficial. A heartfelt message and a refund from the players. Then you take away the loyalty points for fans that travelled all the way to Newcastle?'

A third said: 'Refund the fans going to Newcastle but take their loyalty points for going! Spurs are just incredible'.

While one simply tweeted: 'Spurs taking our loyalty points away is disgusting'.

According to their official Supporters' Trust, Spurs have reassured fans that the loyalty points have been removed as part of an 'automatic part of the process' and will soon be reapplied to their accounts.

Nevertheless, this did little to deter Spurs fans from hitting out at the club for their latest blunder.

One commented: 'The loyalty points will be added back on within 24 hours but my goodness, ANOTHER c**k-up!'

Another said: 'Why on earth would they not prewarn that - Do they not employ any PR advisors anymore?'

While one concluded: 'this is what happens when decisions are made on a whim'.

Spurs have endured a season to forget in 2022-23, with 11 defeats from 32 games leaving them six points adrift of the top four having played two games more than fourth-place Manchester United.

They are also without a permanent head coach after Conte was sacked last month on the back of an astonishing outburst which saw him take aim at his players, chairman Daniel Levy and the club's lack of success in recent years.

Stellini, Conte's former No 2, agreed to stay on as interim boss but has now suffered the same fate as his old superior.
