Tottenham have opened talks over Rosario Central striker Alejo Veliz.

The Argentina U20 international has been a target for Nottingham Forest, Roma and AC Milan in recent weeks with Rosario looking for £13million.

Veliz scored three goals in four matches for Argentina during the U20 World Cup and caught the attention of European scouts with his work ethic and dogged all action style.

The 6ft 2ins centre forward is only 19 but has scored 19 goals in 59 appearances for Rosario with 11 coming last season.

Tottenham want a striker who can lead the line but bring pace as they prepare to lose Harry Kane to Bayern Munich.

The Germans are still short of Tottenham's valuation but believe they can get a deal agreed before August 12.

Tottenham have Richarlison as a ready made centre forward but are looking at young, quick players to build a new attack.

Nottingham Forest's Brennan Johnson is a prime target while Gent's speedy finisher Gift Orban is also on their list.

However, Veliz is a more conventional central striker who they have identified as a good fit for their plans.

Talks are at an early stage but there is confidence from Rosario that a deal can be agreed.
