Utd rooting for City AGAIN in FA Cup final as they look to avoid UEL qualifying

Manchester United will be rooting for rivals Manchester City to complete the domestic treble in the FA Cup Final against Watford in a bid to avoid Europa League qualifying.

After celebrating City's title success over their arch rivals Liverpool, United need City to win the FA Cup on Saturday to ensure the club's season does not start on July 25th.

If Watford defy expectations and win the FA Cup, United will have to enter the Europa League qualifying phase, sending their pre-planned pre-season campaign into chaos.

United are due to play Tottenham in a money-spinning International Champions Cup friendly on July 25.

But a Watford win could see them forced to exit the pre-season tournament to begin their European campaign.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solsklaer has already taken steps to overhaul his squad for next season with interest in Newcastle's Sean Longstaff and also said to be closing in on a deal for Swansea winger Daniel James. An early return for Europe would see little time for any new recruits to bed into the squad.

United also face a problem with the preparation of their pitch as there are concerns it would not be ready if they are drawn at home in the first round of Europa League qualifying. The club have said however, they do have contingency plans.

It could mean that Solskjaer will have his stars back at the start of July after abandoning the end of season meeting with his players following their embarrassing 2-0 loss at home to his former club and at the time, already relegated Cardiff City.

There have been reports that the Norwegian is preparing a more intense training regime for his players as he was shocked on his arrival at the lack of fitness of the United players.

City's potential domestic treble win could also be good news for the Premier League's best of the rest, Wolverhampton Wanderers, as they could enter Europa League qualifying if City complete the treble.

City boss Pep Guardiola could be the first manager in English football to win the domestic treble; something ex United manager Sir Alex Ferguson described as 'impossible'.
