Valverde gives update on Messi's arm injury

Ernesto Valverde spoke ahead of Barcelona's trip to Rayo Vallecano this weekend and gave an update on Lionel Messi's fitness.

Messi broke a bone in his arm against Sevilla two weeks ago and was ruled out for three weeks but has been back in training for the last few days.

He is not in the squad for the Rayo game but could return against Inter Milan on Tuesday, although Valverde suggested even that will be too soon.

"It was an arm injury so it's normal that he's back training quickly, so he can keep in shape and be in contact with his teammates," the Barca coach said.

"We're going to wait. It's only two weeks since the problem, it's soon, so we still have to wait."

Barça have done well without Messi but Valverde says that won't influence when he comes back: "The team's form is not making me more cautious with Leo -- I'm being cautious because of injury he has.

"If he was ready tomorrow, he'd be there and we would be stronger. He gives us that differential factor and we maintain the block and the sense of the team. So, the only thing with Leo is the affect it could have on his injury. We want him back. With Leo, we're better."
