Van Dijk: The secret to staying strong is discipline, hope to continue playing at the highest level

In the latest issue of Liverpool's official e-magazine, "WALK ON," Van Dijk discussed his secrets to staying in shape.

When asked how he maintains such a strong physique, Van Dijk said: "Discipline, discipline, and more discipline! For me, it's normal because I feel a responsibility to be there every time and to perform well every time."

"Last season I didn't play every minute, because in the match against Brighton at the end of the season, I was on the bench. So, that's not surprising, but I put in a lot of effort behind the scenes to be ready and take on the responsibility for the team."

"So, yes, it requires good recovery, a healthy diet, an overall correct lifestyle, and physical therapy. I can't go into detail, but yoga and so on are all part of it to ensure you can maintain a stable competitive level."

"I've played here for one season where unfortunately I missed a lot of games, but in other seasons, I think I've played more than 40 games. And I think, before this season, the season where I had the most appearances was the season after my knee injury."

"It's truly amazing, and when I heard that, I found it interesting. Playing games is the best thing. I give everything for it and hope to continue to compete at the highest level. Obviously, I'm the oldest player in the team."

"But for me, that hasn't really changed anything. I just want to inspire other players – to show them everything I do to maintain this kind of appearance rate and consistency, and that they also need to work hard to take the next step."

"I joined the team eight and a half years ago, and six months later I was appointed third captain. This responsibility has also made me who I am today – leading and being a part of this successful team, which is also my honor."
