Watford 0-0 Tottenham: Mourinho's side only get 2 points in last 4 PL games

  /  R47

Troy Deeney saw a penalty saved as Tottenham saw their Premier League winless run extend to four matches with an uninspiring 0-0 draw at Vicarage Road.

Match reports

Tottenham had Paulo Gazzaniga to thank for denying Troy Deeney from 12 yards as they escaped Vicarage Road with a point following a goalless draw on Saturday afternoon.

Paulo Gazzaniga dived low to his right to deny the Hornets captain following Jan Vertonghen's handball in the second half.

Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster saved from Nathaniel Chalobah and Lucas Moura before half-time to thwart Jose Mourinho's side.

Deeney had headed a good chance straight at Gazzaniga just before the break, while Abdoulaye Doucoure shot into the side-netting early in the second half.

Watford substitute Ignacio Pussetto, making his debut for the club, cleared an Erik Lamela effort off the line in stoppage time at the end of the match.

Tottenham appeal for a penalty in the Watford box against Cathcart, but the home side are able to break with Deulofeu on the counter. He runs at the Spurs defence before curling a strike wide of the target.

19' Yellow Card! Tanganga booked

YELLOW! Tanganga's dealt with Sarr well so far, but a missed header when the ball comes over the top threatens to set the flying Watford man away, and he's got little choice but to drag him down on the corner of the area.

28' Oliver's communication with VAR fails to work

There's a break in play as referee Michael Oliver has a problem with his communication device and needs repairs on the sideline.

30' CLOSE! Son's shot saved

SAVE! Son latches on to a loose ball on the edge of the box and he lines up a strike at goal that takes a deflection off Chalobah. It wrong foots Foster, but he has enough time to recover to get across to make the stop.

40' Son's shot flies into the sky

OVER! Alderweireld scoops a long ball down the left flank for the run of Son. The winger goes for a first-time strike on the volley, only to guide his effort over the bar.

48' CLOSE! Doucoure misses a golden chance!

CHANCE! Sarr breaks down the right flank past Tanganga with ease and he forces a low ball into the middle. Deeney dummies the ball to allow Doucoure to pounce, but he can only guide his effort into the side-netting.

55' CLOSE! Deeney's shot wide out

CHANCE! Deeney turns with menace in the final third as he latches on to a long ball. He gets the better of Aurier and fires at goal on his right foot, but Alderweireld gets just enough of a block on his effort to divert it past the post.

70' Deeney penalty saved by Gazzaniga!

SAVE! Gazzaniga keeps the scores level with a fine save to deny Deeney from 12 yards. The Watford skipper goes for a strike to the left side of the net, but the keeper guesses the right way and palms it away from danger.

79' New boy Gedson makes Tottenham debut

91' OFF THE LINE! Spurs nearly scored!

Spurs come within inches of breaking the deadlock as Aurier's low cross is diverted towards the line by Lamela on the slide. However, Pussetto covering back is in the right place at the right time to clear it off the line. What an introduction to life at Vicarage Road.
