Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has provided a sound response to Cristiano Ronaldo's 'jealous' remark on Instagram.
Rooney delivered a scathing attack of the forward on Monday following the Red Devils' 1-1 draw against Leicester City at the weekend.
The Derby County boss has since responded to his former team-mate at his latest press conference by insisting there will not be a player on the planet - other than Lionel Messi - who is not jealous of Ronaldo.
Asked on Sky Sports Monday Night Football if signing veteran Ronaldo, 37, has worked for United, Rooney said: 'You'd have to say no at the minute.
'I think he's scored goals, he's scored important goals in the Champions League early on in the season. He scored the hat-trick against Tottenham.
'But I think if you look to the future of the club you would have to go with younger, hungry players to do the best to lift Manchester United over these next two, three years.
On Wednesday, Rooney posted a photograph of himself in the Sky studio alongside Jamie Carragher and host presenter Dave Jones on Instagram. Ronaldo commented with the words 'two jealous' later that day.
Rooney was questioned about his former team-mates remark during his latest Derby County press conference, to which he responded.
'I'd say there's not a football player on the planet who isn't jealous of Cristiano Ronaldo. The career he's had, the trophies he's won, the money he's earned.
'The six-pack, his body,' he added with a wry smile. 'I think every player bar Lionel Messi is jealous of Cristiano.'
Ronaldo has scored 18 times since his move back to United in the summer and is the club’s current top scorer this season.
However, he has come in for some criticism from other pundits and fans who suggested his presence is hampering the squad’s progression and performance.
