Wayne Rooney has revealed that one of his former England team-mates wouldn't speak to him for six months after an incident that occurred in a Premier League game.
The Manchester United legend was speaking on his new BBC podcast The Wayne Rooney Show after his former club kicked off their campaign with a somewhat undeserved 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.
Rooney was asked about about an infamous match between the two old rivals which took place in the the 2004-05 season.
The Red Devils ended Arsenal's 49-game undefeated run with a controversial 2-0 win at Old Trafford, Ruud van Nistelrooy opening the scoring from the penalty spot in the second half before Rooney put the game to bed in injury time.
Rooney went down under a challenge from Sol Campbell to win Van Nistelrooy's spot-kick and the furious defender and his team-mates were convinced that he dived.
Tensions boiled over after the match with Cesc Fabregas throwing aslice of pizza at Sir Alex Ferguson, now known as 'Pizzagate'.
After the game, a slice of pizza was thrown at Ferguson by then 17-year-old Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas - a chaotic moment that would go on to be dubbed as the 'Pizzagate' and the 'Battle of the Buffet'.
'It was a big game for Arsenal. If they had won it, it was 50 games unbeaten for them,' said Rooney.
'We beat them 2-0 and Campbell did not speak to me for over six months.
'We met up [during international duty] and Sol won't speak to me. Sometimes, I was with Sol and I'd say to him: 'Come on man, we are playing for England here'.
'But he wouldn't speak to me because he felt I dived. He left his leg out and I think there was a small contact.'
Rooney added on the rivalry: 'When I joined United, it was the big rivalry we had. I used to love playing against them, but it has died down a little bit now.
'I remember my first game at Highbury for United was the one with Roy and Vieira in the tunnel. You can feel the game was on a knife-edge and even the referees got it.
'We had the Fabregas one with Ferguson in the tunnel - with him throwing a pizza at [Ferguson]. There were fights in the tunnel where everyone was involved.'
Riccardo Calafiori scored the only goal of the game as the north London club won the latest game between the two huge clubs.
There were plenty of positives for united to take from the game with new signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo showing why United spent big on them.
