Werner wants to leave Chelsea & end disappointing stay at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea striker Timo Werner wants to end his disappointing spell at Stamford Bridge by leaving the club in the summer, according to reports in Germany.

The 26-year-old German has failed to live up to expectations at Chelsea after joining the Blues for £53million from RB Leipzig in June 2020.

Sport1 reported Werner, who is under contract until 2025, and his agent Volker Struth are already working on his exit from the club during the next transfer window.

Borussia Dortmund are among those reportedly keen on signing Werner, who has one goal and one assist in 14 Premier League appearances for Chelsea this season.

Chelsea are willing to take a hit on the player as they are believed to be asking for a fee of at least £34million for Werner, according to Sport1.

A potential deal would be complicated by the Government sanctions on Roman Abramovich, which currently prohibit the west London side from doing any business in the transfer market.

Werner's wages are also thought to be an obstacle as he is reportedly Chelsea's fourth-highest earner on around £13.5m a season.

The German has fallen out of favour with manager Thomas Tuchel and has struggled to nail down a place in Chelsea's starting XI.

Werner arrived at Chelsea as one of football's most highly sought-after strikers - having scored 34 goals in 45 games in all competitions during his final season in Germany.

Chelsea were hoping Werner would build on such form at Stamford Bridge but things have not gone according to plan.

Werner admitted last week that he feels more comfortable representing Germany than he does the Blues due to the 'differences in the style of play'.

'Things aren't going the way I'd like at Chelsea, so it's all the better that things are going well here under Hansi Flick,' he said after scoring in Germany's 2-0 friendly win over Israel on Saturday.

'I really enjoy playing football, no matter where I'm playing. There are differences in the style of play between football at Chelsea and here.

'Maybe the one at the national team suits me better. Here, I always have scoring chances, I can score goals. I feel very comfortable here.'
