West Ham making further attempt to sign Jesse Lingard who hopes to leave Manchester United

West Ham are trying again for Manchester United forward Jesse Lingard.

The 29-year-old is due to plead his case to leave with interim manager Ralf Rangnick today after growing increasingly frustrated at being left on the sidelines.

Newcastle United tried to sign the England international last week and have not given up hope but balked at the prospect of meeting United's financial demands which came down to a £2.5million loan fee and a £12m survival bonus.

Lingard has a strong connection with West Ham after his successful loan spell there where he became a huge favourite with fans and has a good relationship with manager David Moyes.

The problems have occurred in negotiations behind the scenes in the past but Moyes is hoping the clubs can navigate those to strike a late deal.

An added complication is that Mason Greenwood's suspension could leave United short of attacking options should they allow Lingard to leave.

Despite the fact he has been a peripheral figure, United have since loaned out Anthony Martial to Sevilla, Amad Diallo to Rangers and Donny van de Beek to Everton.

United value Lingard as a £50m asset despite the fact he has remained predominantly on the bench and do not believe their figures on a loan are unreasonable.

Lingard has been looking to run down his contract and assess options in the summer with interest from AC Milan and Atletico Madrid but is loath to carry on under his current situation.

Moyes is determined to change people's perceptions of West Ham hence his policy during the current window of attempting to sign only top level players.

Though it is prone to rejections and frustration he is ploughing ahead. Club record offers have been made for the likes of Leeds United's Kalvin Phillips and they have been willing to do the same for Benfica's Darwin Nunez today.

Moyes wants to send a message out to his current players and prospective ones that he is looking to move the club up another level and hopes Lingard will buy into that ideal.
