Who could play in Klopp's dream 'team full of Scousers' at Liverpool?

  /  autty

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp raised a few eyebrows last week when he glanced into the future and notioned at the prospect of filling his side with a team full of Scousers.

Speaking ahead of the Reds' 3-1 victory against Brighton last Wednesday, Klopp said: 'The dream is to have all the boys - maybe it won't happen in the next five years but maybe in 10 years - if you could have a team full of Scousers, why not?'

'It's not a bad thing to be a Scouser, it's a good thing because they are hard working and it's eminently clear that they would fight like crazy.

'These are the good characteristics of a Scouser. The door is open for all the other boys who want to play football.'

So, with an accumulation of the brightest youngsters from the Liverpool youth-team, as well as other Liverpudlians, could Klopp's dream come true anytime soon?

Sportsmail takes a look at a potential Under-22 all-Scouse XI, which Klopp could field down the line at Anfield.

GK - OSCAR KELLY

An 18-year-old who is part of the Under-18s squad, Scouse keeper Kelly has been with Liverpool since the age of nine.

He has progressed through the academy and featured on the bench regularly this season at his age group level.

RB - TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD (C)

Liverpool's star home-grown product, Trent Alexander-Arnold is one of the hottest properties in European football currently.

The 21-year-old is a future Liverpool captain in the making and is the Reds' most creative player from right back, having registered an astonishing 12 Premier League assists this season.

An English and European champion already, the sky is the limit for the Scouse favourite, a lifelong Reds fan who is very much living the dream.

CB - TOM CLAYTON

The centre half appeared on the substitutes bench during Liverpool's 5-0 defeat to Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals in December, and is a regular for the Under-23s.

The 19-year-old, born in Rainford, made his debut for the Under-18s under the guidance of Steven Gerrard in the 2017-18 season and was a member of the side which won the 2019 FA Youth Cup.

He has been with Liverpool since Under-9s level and has signed his first professional contract with the club.

CB - REMI SAVAGE

Adept at playing on the left side of central defence, Savage recently signed a pro contract with the club and was also part of the squad which won the Youth Cup last year.

He scored on his debut for the Under-18s under Gerrard's tutelage a few years ago, and has been at the club since Under-9s level.

The 18-year-old can also play at left back and says his inspiration in the first-team is Virgil Van Dijk.

LB - ADAM LEWIS

Lewis has been in the Liverpool Academy since the age of six, and is highly-thought of amongst the coaching staff at the youth-team's Kirkby base.

The left back, who can also push forward to left wing, captained the Under-18s under Gerrard in the 2017-18 season, and he signed a new long-term contract in February 2019.

Lewis regularly trains with the first-team and made his debut in the FA Cup fourth-round replay victory against Shrewsbury in February.

CM - CURTIS JONES

It's been quite a few weeks for the central midfielder, having scored his first Premier League goal for the club against Aston Villa just days after signing a new contract at the club.

After making his first-team debut last season at Wolves, the 19-year-old has come on leaps and bounds this season.

He scored a stunning match-winner against Everton in the FA Cup in January, and then became the club's youngest ever captain in that Cup win against Shrewsbury. Set to be used more regularly by Klopp next season.

LM - JAMES NORRIS

Norris has been with the club since Under-9s level, and is an England Under-17 international.

An attacking left back, Norris can surge forward and could comfortably swap positions with Lewis behind him in an all-Scouse XI.

He is just 17-years-old and made his first-team debut coming off the bench against Villa in December, with a professional contract signed at the club last month as a reward for his progress.

RM - TOM HILL

Hill was one of the players used by former reserve manager Neil Critchley against Villa in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, with the first-team away in Qatar.

He scored two goals on his debut for the Under-18s this season, and has since stepped up to the Under-23s.

Originally from Formby, he has scored nine goals this season and signed his first ever professional contract in February.

FW - JOE GELHARDT

The Wigan striker has been linked with a move away from the DW Stadium in recent weeks, particularly since the Championship club entered administration.

Hailing from Netherton in Merseyside, he joined Wigan's academy at the age of 10 and made his professional debut at the age of 16, two years ago.

The forward scored his first goal for the club against Hull in September and has made 17 appearances for the first-team under Paul Cook.

FW - JOE HARDY

A recent arrival from Brentford in January, Wirral-born forward Hardy made his Liverpool debut against Shrewsbury in February's famous win.

He actually played for rivals Manchester City in his youth-team days, before joining the Bees three years ago and scoring a goal every two games (40 in 80) for the club's B team.

The 21-year-old scored seven goals in two months for the Under-23s, and signed a new deal in June.

FW - ANTHONY GORDON

Everton fans, brace yourselves. A cheeky selection to finish, but Gordon is certainly a prospect given his rapid development into the first-team picture at Goodison Park.

He made his debut at the age of 16 in a Europa League game in December 2017, and was a member of the Under-23s squad which won a league and cup double in the 2017-18 season.

Now 19, Gordon started for the first-ream for the first time against Liverpool last month, and has made seven appearances in all competitions this season. But with a contract until June 2023, it'd be quite a story if Liverpool plunged for the Scouse striker in the future.
