In the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, Paris Saint-Germain completed a double victory over Arsenal across both matches, advancing to the Champions League final for only the second time in the club’s history, the first being in the 2019–20 season.

At the start of the season, PSG’s star player Kylian Mbappé left the club on a free transfer to join Real Madrid. During his seven seasons with Paris Saint-Germain, Mbappé and the team were eliminated in the Round of 16 of the Champions League four times, reached the semi-finals twice, and finished as runners-up in the 2019–20 season.

After joining Real Madrid, Mbappé was seen as having a greater chance of winning both the Champions League and the Ballon d’Or. However, Real Madrid were knocked out in the quarter-finals of the Champions League by Arsenal, shattering Mbappé’s dreams of European and individual glory once again.

Meanwhile, under the leadership of Luis Enrique, PSG has seen a breakout season from Ousmane Dembélé, with Gianluigi Donnarumma performing spectacularly. PSG have battled through adversity, starting from the Champions League knockout play-off round and defeating three Premier League teams in a row to reach the final.
