Camavinga joins Real Madrid
Eduardo Camavinga would leave Ligue 1 side Rennes on Tuesday.
The young midfielder had previously made a name for himself as one of the brightest young talents in world football.
And now, at just 18 years of age, is set to ply his trade in the Spanish capital with Real Madrid:
Why Man United didn’t sign Camavinga
On the back of this transfer, Man United fans are likely feeling somewhat aggrieved.
The Red Devils would have a close to perfect transfer window which only really could have been made better by the arrival of a defensive-minded central midfielder.
And it did look as though Camavinga could have certainly fit that bill. Manchester United were even said to have been in direct contact to sign Camavinga back in July, with Rennes reported to have been open to selling the hot prospect for just €30m as his contract was expiring the following year and they would likely lose him for free next summer if he was not sold this year:
So, why did Man United not end up signing Camavinga this summer?
Well, the Manchester Evening News have provided some insight into this.
Their report emerged on Tuesday before Real had officially announced Camavinga, but the reasoning for United not signing him remains the same.
As per the MEN, Man United had explored the possibility of a move for Camavinga, but they were made aware that his preference was always to move to Spain this summer.
They add that, following those talks, a United move for Camavinga this summer was effectively a non-starter as the club will only sign players who are completely sold on the vision of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, which Camavinga seemingly wasn’t as he was eyeing a move to Spain
