Arsenal will go head-to-head with Pep Guardiola's Manchester City at Wembley Stadium today.

The Gunners come into the game off the back of a penalty shootout win against Monaco in the Emirates Cup.

Mikel Arteta's side have made big moves already in the summer window and have signed the likes of Declan Rice from West Ham, Kai Havertz from Chelsea and Jurrien Timber from Ajax.

Manchester City come into the game off the back of a defeat to Atletico Madrid in their final pre-season game.

But why are Arsenal playing in the Community Shield? How can you watch it? Mail Sport provides the answers below.

Why are Arsenal playing in the Community Shield?

Traditionally, the Community Shield sees the Premier League champions and the FA Cup winners go head-to-head.

While that is still the case, Arsenal will be playing in this year's showcase despite failing to win lift a single trophy last season.

City won the league title back in May, finishing five points clear at the top. Guardiola's side also won the FA Cup after beating rivals Manchester United 2-1 in the final.

With the Manchester giants winning both competitions, the second spot is handed to the league runners-up from the previous campaign - Arsenal.

How to watch

Arsenal's showdown with the Premier League champions will be shown live on ITV 1, with coverage starting at 3.15pm.

The match will also be streamed live on the official ITVX app.

Mail Sport will be providing live coverage of Arsenal's clash with Manchester City so you can keep up to date with all the action here.

Who won the Community Shield last year?

Liverpool are the current holders of the Community Shield after defeating Manchester City 3-1 last year.

Trent Alexander-Arnold opened the scoring in the first-half for Jurgen Klopp's side, before Julian Alvarez equalised with 20 minutes to go.

Two late goals from Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez gave the Reds the win and their 16th title.
