Why isn't Dest or Lozano playing for PSV against PSG in the Champions League?

PSV Eindhoven travel to France on matchday three of the UEFA Champions League, with Paris Saint-Germain their hosts.

USMNT defender Sergiño Dest remains a long-term absentee for PSV Eindhoven, who visit Paris Saint-Germain on matchday three of the UEFA Champions League today.

What injury does Dest have? When will he return?

Dest, who joined PSV from Barcelona in an initial season-long loan in summer 2023, has been out of action since suffering an anterior-cruciate-ligament (ACL) tear in training in April.

Given his long injury lay-off - the 23-year-old isn’t expected back until early next year - the Dutch champions rejected a $12 million option to make his his loan deal permanent in the off season. However, a deal was then reached to sign him on a free transfer, on a four-year deal.

A regular for PSV during their domestic title-winning campaign in 2023/24, Dest has made 37 appearances for the Boeren, scoring twice and supplying seven assists.

Lozano recovering from muscle issue

Dest is joined on the sidelines by Mexican forward Hirving ‘Chucky’ Lozano, who hasn’t played for PSV since suffering a muscle injury in early September. Lozano had started the season in fine form, scoring four times and supplying one assist in four Eredivisie games.

Who else is out for PSV?

PSV have also travelled to Paris without fellow injury absentees Rick Karsdorp and Joey Veerman, while Ivan Perisic is ineligible to appear for Peter Bosz‘s team in the Champions League’s league phase.
