Wigan have been fined for the pitch invasion which followed their FA Cup fifth-round victory against Manchester City, the Football Association has announced.

Supporters of the League One club came on to the pitch after their 1-0 win on February 19, with City striker Sergio Aguero being confronted.

Some home fans were also filmed taunting the away end upon the final whistle.

An FA statement read: 'Wigan Athletic have been fined £12,500 for failing to ensure that no spectators or unauthorised persons encroached onto the pitch at the Emirates FA Cup match against Manchester City on Monday February 19.

'The club admitted the charge and were sanctioned following an independent regulatory commission hearing.'

The League One side went on to lose 2-0 at home to Southampton in the quarter-finals of the competition.

They had also beaten Premier League sides Bournemouth and West Ham during the run to the last eight, as part of what has been a season of tangible progression.

Wigan are currently first in League One and have already achieved promotion back to the Championship.
