Haaland, who missed the FA Cup semi-final win over Chelsea through injury, sat out training on Tuesday, with Foden also a surprise absentee.

Erling Haaland and Phil Foden have sparked fears they could miss Manchester City’s Premier League fixture away to Brighton on Thursday after they both sat out training on Tuesday.

What has Pep Guardiola said about Haaland’s availability?

The Norwegian striker didn’t feature in the FA Cup semi-final victory over Chelsea on Saturday, with manager Pep Guardiola stating before the game: “He’s injured. I don’t think it’s much but he’s not able today.”

The former Barcelona coach later said that he doesn’t know whether Haaland will be able to return for the midweek trip to Brighton.

Haaland’s Champions League struggles in Real Madrid defeat

The 23-year-old, who has broken all sorts of record since moving to England, has come under some criticism for his performances in recent weeks and struggled to make an impact in the two-legged Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid, which City lost.

Haaland was surprisingly taken off for Julián Álvarez at the start of extra-time in what initially looked to be a tactical substitution, although it now looks as if injury may have played a part.

Foden a surprise absentee from training, Stones completes session

Foden, by contrast, has been in scintillating form of late and played the full 90 minutes of the cup win against Chelsea. His absence from training caught most by surprise, although Guardiola has yet to comment on his availability for Thursday’s fixture.

Given that every other member of the roster did take part, however, suggests Foden could also be a doubt to face Brighton.

The good news for City is that John Stones, who was forced off at Wembley at half-time, did train, boosting his chances of featuring. The defender-cum-midfielder has had a injury-hit season, missing 14 games in all competitions.
