With Mbeumo finally secured, Manchester United must now prioritise sales

After weeks of negotiations, which at times felt like it might last all summer, Manchester United have finally signed Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. The job has only just started, though, and INEOS must not rest on their laurels.

Manchester United have completed a signing that, for the second time this summer, feels like a step in a positive direction.

However, if United want to keep improving a team at rock bottom after languishing embarrassingly close to relegation last season, they need to find a way to end the stalemate surrounding sales and fast.

In a transfer window where outgoings are vital for squad morale and to fund a much-needed rebuild, INEOS and director of football Jason Wilcox should turn their attention to offloading a long list of players who are not part of Ruben Amorim's project.

So, which players are up for sale and what interest is there in them?

1. Marcus Rashford

Rashford had an encouraging loan spell at Aston Villa, where, whilst not setting the world alight, he rediscovered some form and was rewarded with an England recall by Thomas Tuchel in March. Unlike others on this transfer list, the Manchester United academy graduate also has an impressive CV to tempt suitors into making an offer.

At his best during Rashford's United career, he has been unplayable, and a confident Rashford would be an asset to most sides.

The problem the wide forward faces is that he hasn't consistently delivered those levels from one season to the next. When you also factor in his extortionate wages, you suddenly have a player that few clubs can afford and even fewer who want to take the gamble, given his inconsistency.

Having said that, David Ornstein has reported that Barcelona are closing in on signing Rashford on loan with an option to buy after failing in their pursuit to sign Nico Williams.

A loan move is ideal for INEOS and Ruben Amorim, who agree that Rashford doesn't have a future at the club. However, considering Rashford's high wages and the lack of interest elsewhere, agreeing a deal with an option to buy with Barcelona is positive for all parties.

2. Alejandro Garnacho

The second high-profile winger who has fallen out of favour with the ruthless Amorim is Garnacho. It wasn't long ago that the Argentine was Erik ten Hag's golden boy. Garnacho quickly became a fan favourite for his directness, fearlessness and ability to produce the spectacular.

However, after Amorim's appointment in November of last season, Garnacho failed to adapt effectively to the new system and found his minutes limited. That resulted in him playing just 20 minutes in the Europa League final - a decision Garnacho did not take well.

After the match, the 21-year-old told the media: "Until the (Europa League) final, I played every round helping the team...

"Then the final arrives, and I play 20 minutes? I don't know. I will try to enjoy the summer, and then we will see what happens."

Unsurprisingly, Amorim did not take well to those comments, and it was soon reported in the media that Garnacho would be dropped from the squad and was up for sale. The Argentine wasn't in United's squad for the final game of the season. Amorim is a man of principle and is unlikely to change his mind on Garnacho.

So, where does Garnacho go from here? Chelsea looks to be the most likely destination at the moment, and if a deal can be agreed, it would be a good fit for both parties. Chelsea will be signing a hugely talented player who could become one of the league's best left-wingers.

The sticking point is the player's attitude problems, which have got him in trouble on various occasions during his fledgling career. If Enzo Maresca can iron those out, then he will have a useful addition to a young, hungry and supremely talented squad. What might be playing on Chelsea's mind is the recent underwhelming loan spell by another Manchester United employee, Jadon Sancho.

Is it too risky to splash the cash on a young United winger with similar attitude problems to Sancho?

That is where Garnacho might have pushed himself into a corner a bit, as reports suggest he is only interested in a Premier League move. Ignoring interest from Napoli and other suitors abroad might prove to be a costly mistake if he can't manufacture a move in England by the end of August. Because if Garnacho or Rashford are still at the club by then, don't expect Amorim to reinstate the duo into his squad, at least not by choice.

That is a dilemma Manchester United could really do without.

3. Jadon Sancho

We have already touched upon Sancho's poor loan spell at Chelsea, which resulted in the Club World Cup champions refusing to sign the England winger on a permanent deal. That has left United with another player who is not part of their plans after he disrespected the club on numerous occasions and fell out with former head coach Ten Hag. Sancho is a player, more than any other, who has zero prospect of a future at the club.

The hierarchy has made it clear in leaks to the media that they want him to move on, and fortunately, there appears to be an interested party. Multiple Italian journalists have reported that Juventus want to sign Sancho on a permanent deal.

A move abroad feels the smartest move, and Juventus might just offer Sancho the reset his career desperately needs. He doesn't possess the pace or physicality to succeed in the Premier League, but he has excelled in two spells in Germany, and he might prove to be a smart signing from the Italian giants.

4. Antony

There is less bad blood between Antony and Manchester United. That doesn't mean he is part of Amorim's plans, though, as the Portuguese has made it clear through his actions that he simply doesn't rate Antony high enough.

It is curious, then, that after a hugely successful loan spell at Real Betis in the second half of last season, there is very little news about the Brazilian's future. You would think there would be plenty of interest in Antony after a loan in which he did more than put himself in the shop window - he became a fan favourite at Betis.

There is little doubt that Betis would love Antony back, but they can't afford his signature, and United aren't interested in another loan deal. The coach who signed Antony, Ten Hag, is reportedly interested in bringing the winger to his new club Bayer Leverkusen, although those links remain tentative for now.

There is still plenty of time left in the window for a club to come knocking, but out of all United's unwanted stars, Antony's impressive spell in Spain should make him the most sought-after, not the least.

Mass exodus or trouble for Manchester United

Those are just the four highest-profile names in a long list of players whom United would listen to offers for, including Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. The challenge ahead is huge and United need to get a move on if they want to raise funds to bring in a striker, goalkeeper and central midfielder - three positions they are looking to strengthen this summer, according to The Athletic.

The trouble is, from injury problems to lack of form, is there that much interest in United's rejects or demand for players with complicated personalities and high wages? Those are the difficult questions facing INEOS and Ruben Amorim, who may be reluctantly forced into reinstating players whose Manchester United story looked so certain to be over.

The challenge for INEOS is to avoid that outcome and provide their head coach with the overhaul he requires.
