France won the World Cup for the second time as Croatia were put to the sword in a thrilling 4-2 win in Sunday's final.
MATCH REPORT: FRANCE, WORLD CHAMPIONS! Les Bleus beat Croatia 4-2 in epic final to lift the trophy!
Mario Mandzukic scored at both ends after starting the flood with an own goal, before Ivan Perisic, Antoine Griezmann, Paul Pogba, Kylian Mbappe found the net for France.
The game will be remembered for its goals, but there were so many other incidents and Sportsmail's ROBERT SUMMERSCALES has rounded up some of the things you may have missed.
Griezmann lies with his eyes
Griezmann scored from the penalty spot to put France 2-1 ahead on 38 minutes.
As he strode up to the ball, the striker made eye contact with Croatia goalkeeper Danijel Subasic and the mind games began.
Griezmann appeared to gesture, with his eyes and then mouth, towards the bottom left corner of the keeper's goal.
And Subasic went that way when he dived, but Griezmann sent his shot into the other side of the net.
Kante and Pogba partnership remains unbeaten
France have still never lost a game in which N'Golo Kante and Paul Pogba have both started.
After today's win in 90 minutes, the midfield duo's international record is: played 19, won 15, drawn four.
French fans create incredible scene below Eiffel Tower
Moscow produced a marvellous atmosphere as the final capped off what has been a wonderful tournament.
But France fans back home in Paris created an even more incredible scene as they gathered in huge numbers to watch on big screens at the foot of the Eiffel Tower.
Nike print two-star France shirts
Around 20,000 fans will be able to get their hands on France home shirts featuring two stars early next week.
Nike produced a limited edition version of the current kit with a couple of stars above the emblem in anticipation of them winning World Cup No 2.
The presumptive move paid off and there is likely to be a scramble for the shirts when they go on sale on Monday or Tuesday.
As soon as France were confirmed as champions, Nike Football tweeted a video featuring the new kit.
Bouncers guard World Cup trophy
The World Cup trophy ended up in the safe hands of France goalkeeper and captain Hugo Lloris.
But before kick-off it was guarded even more securely as a team of serious-looking bouncers escorted it into the Luzhniki Stadium.
You shouldn't have!
France manager Didier Deschamps looked slighted embarrassed when his opposite number, Zlatko Dalic, presented him with a goody bag emblazoned with the Croatian national team's logo before the game.
The pair then hugged after Deschamps gestured apologetically for not having a gift to offer Dalic in return.
Modric dwarfed by young mascot
Croatia captain Luka Modric was dwarfed by a strikingly-tall FIFA mascot at the pre-match coin toss.
The 5ft 8in Real Madrid midfielder needn't feel too bad, though, as the youngster, dressed in red Adidas kit, was also significantly bigger than two of the FIFA officials.
France win World Cup with goalless striker... again
Olivier Giroud featured in all seven of France's games at Russia 2018 and did not score a single goal.
France won the World Cup with a goalless striker up front in 1998 too when Stephane Guivarc'h was hooked after 66 minutes of the final.
Giroud made in to 80 minutes in Sunday's showpiece before being taken off. He failed to register a single shot on target throughout the whole tournament.
Own goals record doubled
Mario Mandzukic's first-half error provided this World Cup with its 12th own goal.
Before this record-breaking tournament, France '98 was the World Cup with the most own goals in history — just six.
Cheeky Mbappe nutmegs Vida
Kylian Mbappe is not a teenager short on confidence.
And the 19-year-old France sensation highlighted this in the first half when he cheekily nutmegged Croatia defender Domagoj Vida.
Mbappe had collected the ball after coming back from an offside position and the flag was raised.
Both players had appeared to recognise that the game had been paused for offside, but that did not stop Mbappe popping the ball between Vida's legs.
