Wrexham have made a bold move for Christian Eriksen following the Danish midfielder's exit from Manchester United as they look to make a statement in the transfer market

Wrexham have made a sensational bid to try and sign Christian Eriksen following his exit from Manchester United. The Red Dragons, owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, are looking to make a statement in the transfer market after securing promotion to the Championship in April.

Manager Phil Parkinson has already brought in six new players so far this summer, including Plymouth striker Ryan Hardie, former Leicester goalkeeper Danny Ward and Empoli left-back Liberato Cacace.

The Welsh side's transfer activity significantly gathered pace this week following the arrivals of Bolton captain George Thomason, ex-Sheffield Wednesday forward Josh Windass and Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O'Brien.

It's now being reported that Wrexham have also made an approach for Eriksen, who left United this summer. The midfielder, who has also turned out for Ajax, Tottenham, Inter Milan and Brentford during his career, has an impressive CV.

The Danish international has won league titles in the Netherlands and Italy, as well as English domestic cup wins with United. Eriksen joining Wrexham would therefore represent a major coup for the Championship new boys.

However, despite being impressed by the club's offer, the 33-year-old has turned down the chance to move to North Wales. According to Eriksen's agent, Martin Schoot, Eriksen is keen to play at the highest level for as long as possible and has been approached by clubs from around the globe, including Saudi Arabia, the United States, Turkey and Brazil.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Schoot said: "Wrexham are really upgrading everything both on and off the field, and it is a hugely impressive project, as you can see from the presence of people like Michael Williamson [chief executive] there.

"But Christian still wants to play in a first-tier competition and he absolutely wants to stay in Western Europe. There are some contacts going on but it has to suit both sides."

Wrexham's chief executive previously worked at Inter Milan in several senior roles between 2014 and 2018. While Williamson had already left by the time Eriksen arrived in 2020, the American is understood to be making the most of his Italian contacts to aid the Red Dragons' recruitment.

Eriksen is not the first big name star to be linked with Wrexham this summer, with Leicester legend Jamie Vardy and Fulham skipper Tom Cairney also said to have been targeted by the club. Eriksen has made 144 appearances for his country during his career, scoring 46 goals in the process.

He was signed by United in 2022 after shining for Brentford in the Premier League. The Bees brought Eriksen in following his recovery from a cardiac arrest, which he suffered on the pitch at the Euro 2020 tournament.

Eriksen made 107 appearances and scored eight goals during his three seasons at United, including a penalty against Aston Villa in his final outing in May. While Wrexham were unsuccessful in their bid to lure him to the Racecourse Ground, their transfer activity is expected to continue in the coming weeks as they prepare for life in the Championship, with Wales and Sheffield United striker Kieffer Moore claimed to be their latest target.
