"Benzema's goal was wrongly disallowed because Fabinho plays the ball"

In the 45th minute of the Champions League final, Clement Turpin disallowed a goal scored by Karim Benzema and the decision remained that way after VAR assessed the situation.

Despite video evidence showing that the final touch came from a sliding Fabinho, Benzema's goal wasn't allowed to stand, to the confusion of many.

"It was wrongly disallowed because Fabinho played the ball," Pavel Fernandez explained to Radio MARCA.

"The only doubt I have is if there was an offside at the start of the play.

"But this image doesn't clarify it for me, what happens afterwards is legal, the defender enables Benzema to be onside."

Turpin had enjoyed a calm evening to that point, with the match taking very little incident in the first half.
