Recently, "AS" compiled statistics on officiating decisions favoring Real Madrid and Barcelona over the past decade, revealing that Barcelona played with a numerical advantage for 862 minutes, while Real Madrid gained a net advantage of 56 penalties.

Refereeing controversies are constant in LaLiga, and the detailed foul data deserves closer examination.

According to Stats Perform data spanning the past decade (from the 2016/17 season through the 2026/27 season), Barcelona played with a numerical advantage for 862 minutes, equivalent to approximately 9.57 matches.

These figures contrast sharply with those of Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid. Real Madrid had a negative net value, playing with one fewer player for 91 minutes. Atlético Madrid's disadvantage was significantly larger, at 330 minutes, equivalent to approximately 3.66 matches.

These figures result from red cards issued to players on each team. Opponents received 59 red cards against Barcelona, while Barcelona received 30, a difference of 29. Real Madrid's net value was nearly even, with 38 of their players sent off early compared to 39 opposing players. Atlético Madrid was clearly the most disadvantaged, with 45 of their own players sent off against just 30 opposing players.

From a penalty perspective, Real Madrid's statistics are considerably more favorable. Stats Perform indicates that Real Madrid ranks first in net penalty decisions over the past decade.

Over the last ten years, Real Madrid was awarded 101 penalties and conceded 45, resulting in a net gain of 56. Barcelona's advantage is also substantial, receiving 76 and conceding 33, for a net gain of 43. Atlético Madrid received 57 and conceded 50, for a net gain of 7 penalties.

In another statistical category, Real Madrid is among Europe's top-five leagues' teams with the fewest fouls committed.

According to Stats Perform data, Real Madrid averages only 8.56 fouls per game, placing them among the five teams with the fewest fouls in Europe. They are preceded by Paris Saint-Germain (5.86), Everton (7.43), Inter Milan (8.14), and Torino (8.50).

Conversely, Real Madrid is also among European teams most frequently receiving yellow cards relative to fouls committed. Real Madrid receives one yellow card per 4.28 fouls. Only Hull City (3.45), Venezia (3.55), and Genoa (3.78) have a higher card-to-foul ratio, while Everton and Bournemouth are tied at 4.33.
